Abstract
We present a group-theoretic structure for cascade-form synthesis of linear
phase filter banks and regular wavelets with odd-length impulse responses.
The structure is amenable for factorization and efficient implementation of
known filter banks as well as optimal design of new filter banks. We
illustrate by showing the factorization of the well-known
Cohen-Daubechies-Feauveau 9-7 filter bank and an optimal design of a
7-tap/5-tap filter bank with regular wavelets that will appear in Part 2
of the JPEG-2000 standard.
