Sitar Synthesizer Poetry Dramatics Interiors Choreography Painting Embroidery Travel Singing Games Awards
- Sitar - The Prayag Sangeet Samiti at Allahabad, India, found it suitable to confer upon me the Senior Diploma in Sitar recital in 1993.
- Synthesizer - This is one of my newest passions. I'm quite new to it -- but if you ever visit me, I'm definitely going to show you my progress :-)
- Poetry - In my kindergarten days, I used to write plenty of them. But, gradually this facet slipped under my daily ways. Recently, however, it seems that pursuing Ph.D. has again sparked this lost creativity. You may read some of them at http://signal.ece.utexas.edu/~serene/html_files/my_poetry.html
- Dramatics - Acting was my passion from the tender age of ten. The vast opportunity of cultural activities available at IIT Kharagpur supported me to give out my best and I won the Best Performer Award for consecutively four times. The judges at Spring Fest, 1998, also found me suitable for the Best Direction and the Best Play Awards.
- Interior decoration - I haven't got my degree in it, yet. But, if you are planning to renovate your home -- check me out!!!
- Choreography - The Classical Indian Dance, Bharatnatyam, stimulates every Indian mind. I find in it my emotional stimulant.
- Painting - From time immemorial this has been an expression of the inner feelings. I try to do the same in pastels, water and oil colors.
- Embroidery - Probably the best way to kill time and exercise your eyes. But, the final thing does give you a lot of self satisfaction.
- Travel - I just love trekking (and my advisor keeps on correcting that it should be "hiking") - specially along the snow-capped peaks on the foothills of the Himalayas.
- Singing - If you like my voice I wouldn't mind disturbing you.
- Games - You know there were only four girls at IIT who would prefer track events - Sarika, Shilpi, Archana and me. And ... I would always come fourth on the list :-)). However, I would play Basketball and Badminton too, if you wouldn't mind having a bad partner. The only exception, where I would dare to compete is swimming.
Special achievements:
Received Sacchidananda Basak Memorial Award being adjudged the best National Social Service volunteer of the year 1997 at IIT Kharagpur.
Received Suhasini Devi Memorial Award being adjudged the best woman all arounder student of the year 1999 at IIT Kharagpur.
